Frequently asked questions for weddings

Below you will find answers to some of our most frequently asked questions. If you didn’t find what you were looking or would like to book a consultation, contact us. Check out our weddings photo gallery to see some of our most inspired and amazing work and for ideas for your own wedding.

The Consultation

Consultations are complimentary and are intended as a casual first meeting. During the consultation you will become better acquainted with our shop and style, discuss your flower preferences, some of the preliminary details of your wedding, and create an informal bid, which is not a binding contract, but rather an estimate inclusive of all the flower details on your wish list. Your consultation will take about an hour and will be held in the shop with the owner Kim or with a lead designer, so that you can have a closer look at our work and style.

We recommend scheduling your first consultation sometime between 3 and 8 months before your wedding, once you have selected your ceremony and reception sites, gowns, fabrics, and guests. This will make narrowing down your flower and color themes a bit easier. This time frame is only a recommendation, and of course we will be happy to discuss the details of your wedding whether it this summer, this weekend, or next year.

Do We Have a Minimum Budget?

There are no set prices or packages for any of our wedding work. Every wedding bid is specific to the details of the wedding and we are more than happy to work with any budget, big or small.

Booking Your Date

After your initial consultation it’s up to you to decide if you want us to do your flowers. You can take as much time as you need to make a decision. If you decide to use us, we will ask that you pay a $100 non-refundable deposit to reserve your date. The deposit will be applied to your final balance. You can either mail us a check for $100 made payable to Geranium Lake Flowers or you can call the shop and pay by credit card. We do prefer payment by check if possible. Please note, really popular weekends of the summer fill up fast so don’t wait too long to make a decision if your wedding is on one of those weekends, i.e. July 4th weekend, Labor Day Weekend, and almost any weekend in August!

Your Final Appointment

Your final appointment will happen about two to four weeks before your wedding date. During this appointment all the final details will be discussed and decided on. We will narrow down your guest count and make final decisions on your favorite flowers, centerpiece needs, altar needs, boutonnieres & corsages and everything else that goes along with a fabulous wedding. If your budget or wish list needs to be reduced or increased, we will be able to make it all work during this appointment. This is the point where we will also ask for your final wedding flower payment. You will want to call the shop and schedule your final appointment about one to two months (for August appointments) in advance.

The Portland Bridal Show, Bravo shows and Bravo Central Oregon

We participate in several bridal shows including the Portland Bridal Show, Bravo! Wedding Affair and the Central Oregon Wedding Showcase. They are great ways to see lots of our work in large and smaller settings and to see example of bouquets all in one place in a range of styles. The Bravo wedding affair show is usually in a hotel making it a more sophisticated smaller boutique wedding show.

Travel and shipping

We now have the ability to travel nationwide as well as ship wedding flowers! This is an exciting new addition to our business and we’re happy to help you get the flowers you want at an affordable price – anywhere in the US! We ship all flowers via overnight service for brides that just have to have our bouquets no matter where they’re getting married. We have even shipped an entire wedding with centerpieces, bridal party and a chuppah to Martha’s Vineyard, MA. It ended up being $3,000 less to ship the wedding than hire the local florist. For more information click here.

We also make deliveries to locations outside Portland such as Seattle, the Oregon coast, Timberline Lodge and the Columbia River Gorge, and Salem to name just a few.

Does Kim personally deliver the weddings? What if we would feel better with her there?

Kim does work almost every weekend though she is dedicated to her family as well and can’t be at every wedding and event. She will most certainly personally guarantee to be there if that is what you would like and she is available. All her staff are personally trained by Kim for wedding deliveries and all have over a year of delivering under their belts before they do anything more complicated. We work consistently at a large number of venues and are familiar with all the quirks of delivery.

What other vendors do you love?

With over 15 years in the wedding business these are our favorites but this industry is changing all the time and there are new faces especially photographers.
